Heavy downpours to hit Hong Kong at lunchtime as thundery showers edge closer

“The areas of thundery showers over the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary is edging closer to the territory gradually.”

Widespread heavy rains might affect Hong Kong shortly, the forecaster said at 11.50am.

According to the forecast, the coming week is still expected to be rainy but will get brighter later.

The Observatory said that a trough of low pressure currently affecting the coast of southern China would weaken gradually over the next couple of days. The upper-air disturbances would also depart.

A thunderstorm warning has been in force since 9.35am, while an amber rainstorm signal was issued at 12.10pm and cancelled at 1.20pm.
